I have gone down a bit of a rabbit hole of Alexandra Potter’s books after reading Confessions of a Forty Something F&#K Up. I have just started listening to book no 4 of hers and they make for the best walking companions.

The last one I read was “So I Met This Guy” and it was almost as good as Confessions. All of the books I have read of Potters so far have featured 40-something women and she makes them so relatable and while none of the books are about grief as such, she talks about it all them in such a relatable way which is why I think I am so drawn to them.
The motivation for this book was romance fraud which seems to be a hot topic in UK, and probably other countries as well. The story follows Maggie and Flick on a 2-week long adventure to find the man who broke Maggies heart and stole all her money.
They are an unlikely pair – Maggie is almost 50, single and about to be homeless while Flick is 26, an aspiring journalist with a boyfriend, living what she thinks is her best life. It takes a while but they fast become firm friends and learn so much about themselves and each other in such a delightful way as they meander through Europe trying to find the fraudster. There are some fun twists and turns along the way and few surprises that I never saw coming. I laughed out loud at so many points in their journey and extended some of my walks so I could carry on listening.
I listened to the audiobook and the narrator was perfect. She got all the different characters so spot on which made it so much fun to listen to.
While it does deal with quite a serious topic it does so with humour and is definitely one of my favourite reads of the year.
