Quick Fire Questions

I am almost halfway on my 100 days of writing challenge. It was a self imposed challenge but I wanted to really try and push myself to get back to regular writing. So I am looking for inspiration all over to get the juices flowing.

I found these quick fire questions on this blog post and thought it was a fun one to do.

When you’re not working, how do you like to spend your time?

Making things on my Cricut, scrapbooking, watching Below Deck or Master Chef, having coffee with friends or walking at Wolvespruit. I am very fortunate to have a very flexible job that allows me time to do other things that I really enjoy.

What are you reading currently?

I have just finished Quintins by Maeve Binchy – I have yet to read a book of hers that I didnt enjoy. I am about to start listening to Happy-Go-Lucky by David Sedaris – another one of my absolute favourite authors.

What’s the first concert you attended?

I was very late to the concert party. The first concert I went to was George Ezra in 2015 with Ansie, her boys and Cameron and Kiara.

What’s your favourite book?

I was thinking about this the other day and actually searched the book online to get a copy and read it again – it was a Tree Grows in Brooklyn by Betty Smith.

What’s your favorite word?

Oh so many. I have so many Afrikaans words as well that are just so nice to say.

What was your first job?

I worked at my aunts restaurant when I was 12.

What’s one thing you’re excited about that’s coming up in 2026?

All of it! My kids are all in such great places, they are all finding their groove again and really just thriving – I can’t wait to see what they all do in 2026. Also it is David’s empire building era and watching him grow is such a treat. It is his time now and he deserves it.

What is your most-used emoji?

🥴 I don’t actually know if it is my most used but it is my favourite.

If you could win an Olympic medal for any sport, real or fake, what would it be?

Logistics.

If you could change your name, what would it be?

I actually don’t mind my name but I do love Rebecca and neither of the father’s of my kids liked it but I am also not really a Rebecca.

What was your favourite subject in school?

English but not the grammar part – the reading, writing and poetry part.

What’s your hidden talent?

Logistics – seriously I can plan pretty much anything regardless of the obstacles.

If you had to eat one thing for every meal going forward, what would you eat?

Homemade red cabbage coleslaw. We do pretty much eat it with every meal now.

If someone were to play you in a movie, who would you want it to be?

Drew Barrymore.

If you could spend a day in someone else’s shoes, whose would they be? Why?

Siya Kolisi – he honestly looks like he just loves his life and takes joy in the small, every day moments.

What’s one thing your mother/father taught you that completely changed your life?

Boundaries.

What’s the first career you dreamed of having as a kid?

Being a princess – for many many years.

What’s the last text you sent?

There is a delivery coming in for me – to David. LOL riveting stuff, right!

What’s one of your favourite memories?

Cameron and I spent over a week in PE for a gala he had. We were gifted a ton of experiences by the City of PE and had an absolute blast – we went ziplining, visited Addo, went to a wolf sanctuary, museums – it was one of the best trips I have ever had.

What’s one thing about you that surprises people?

I am not as tough and hard as it appears.

Who, or what, was your biggest teacher?

Burning out in 2022. It forced me to look at my life, my habits, relationships and reassess things.

What was something you’ve done that made you feel extreme happiness?

I think my hiking at the moment. I started off hating it but now I crave it and when I am out walking, I feel so calm and at peace.

Knowing what you know now, what advice would you give your 18-year-old self?

Trust yourself more.

If you could instantly become an expert in something, what would it be?

Perimenopause – despite my readings and learnings it still feels like such an enigma.

What does success mean to you?

Being able to spend quality time with my children and husband.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?

Fake it, then figure it out.

Where is your happy place?

At home with my family and dogs or out on my mountain.

What qualities do you value in the people with whom you spend time?

Honestly, loyalty and reliability.

If you didn’t have to sleep, what would you do with the extra time?

Make stickers with my Circut. No, seriously I would probably just end up watching more trash TV.

At what job would you be terrible?

Anything that requires nurturing – nurse, DR, vet, teacher.

If you had to choose only 3 adjectives to describe yourself, which would you choose?

Loyal, honest, funny.

What makes you feel uneasy? Overwhelmed? Anxious?

When I don’t have control.

What is a dream you have that you’ve yet to achieve?

Writing a book. Visiting India.

What’s something you say you’ll do, but never will?

Tough one because I have learnt now to be a lot more honest about my capabilities.

Of what are you most afraid?

The dark. I hate the dark. It terrifies me. Still, even at 47.

What’s the one thing you would like to change about yourself?

That I still struggle to completely accept my body.

Are you religious or spiritual?

More spiritual I think.

Do you have any recurring dreams or nightmares?

No but I do often have action dreams where I have to run away from people but the reason, setting is always different.

If you were given a chance to explore the oceans, go to outer space or visit 50 different countries, which one you choose and why?

50 different countries, I am a little scared of the oceans if I am honest and not really interested too much in outer space.

What are your top five favourite movies?

Pretty Woman, Hook, Brave, The Transformers Franchise (don’t even care if you judge), Dead Poets Society (although I may never be able to watch it again) and Powder.
