I love writing these weekly round ups but the last few weeks have felt very boring. I have been distracted and not focused but I think I am getting my mojo back. Might be thanks to the Lions Mane I have been taking for a week now or it could just be that things are calmer, I have been exercising more and I feel less scattered. Or maybe a mix of all of these things.
Glimmers
(Glimmers are micro-moments of joy that make us feel happy, hopeful, and safe.)
- Since my post last week I have been on 3 hikes. One with a new group of ladies, one with David and my father in law and one with Eve. While I do feel good afterwards – I don’t particularly love them. The walk with Eve was a little harder than my previous hikes and when we stopped to rest we both questioned our life choices but were too far in to do anything but finish.
- Emma’s party was perfect. She has a small group of friends and they had the best time swimming and singing and screaming.
- Emma turned 11 on Monday and we had a day of shopping, Bounce and a lovely dinner out.
- My Papery box arrived and it is PERFECT! It is my 4th box and honestly each one is better than the previous one.
- I am trying to change up the meals we have for dinner because we are all getting bored. I had a pack of phyllo pastry in the freezer so made some samoosas. The kids loved them and I was pretty chuffed with how they came out.
- I made this glass mug for Eve’s daughter for her birthday – isn’t it absolutely gorgeous.
- I managed to figure out how to make scrapbook titles on my Cricut. It was one of the more technical projects I have done.
- I am not sure if this qualifies as a glimmer but it was a lightbulb moment for me. I have been struggling so much with SWEAT! I have been sweating something horrible. I assumed it was menopause, and it still could be, but my therapist mentioned that it could be a side effect of my antidepressant. I did some more research and its a pretty common side effect! I was going to wean off the meds anyway at the end of the month so I am hoping this is the reason. (But I am seeing a Dr to discuss it all).
- I bought some marigolds for our garden which have made such a difference – they add so much colour and joy.
My Weekly Wisdom..
I was watching a show the other day, a mother was on trial for murder. Basically she scratched another car because it had parked too close to her, the owner got mad, she tried to diffuse the situation, he followed her and eventually started making fun of her saying must be a bad mother. Something snapped and he ended up dead. (She didn’t actually kill him but her actions led to it.)
At the sentencing she said “I didn’t realise I was not actually coping until I snapped.”
This struck a chord with me because I think so many of us have been here. Obviously it doesn’t always lead to death but it does lead to other irrational outbursts because we think we are coping. We think we are holding it all together but actually we are barely breathing. I was there last year. When I went to the clinic I realised how many other woman (and men) were there. All thinking we were coping when actually we were being pushed every day closer and closer to our breaking point.
As mothers I think we keep pushing our breaking point further and further back because we think we have to. We think we have to be ok because everyone else is. The reality is I think now more than ever we are all one small car scratch away from breaking.
Cool Things I Learnt
Did you know that fairies are serious in Ireland. They have fairy trees that children are warned to stay away from. There is even a road that was built around a fairy tree.
Paypal was started by 3 (no so great) South African men. I knew there was South African involvement but not that much.
We work in aviation so this was pretty cool to see. Being a pilot is the number one dream job globally, followed closely by a YouTuber.
This is a great article about this stage of life “You stop fighting against life and start flowing with it. And when you’re aligned, everything—health, happiness, relationships—begins to transform.”
I wrote about the Let Them theory a while ago. I heard about it from Mel Robbins so it was disappointing to her she plagiarized it. Many of us have written about it but we all credit Robbins, not sure why she couldn’t have done the same. *sigh*

Wordsof the Week
I am joining up with the Word of the Week link party this week so my word for the week would have to be NATURE. There was a lot of outdoor activity for me this past week.
Until next week!

For every action, there is a reaction. Sad that the mother did what she did to go on trial for murder. Makes a person think how their own actions will be received. Thank you for sharing at Gma’sPhoto ge•ner•ic Linkup Party. I look forward to ‘seeing’ you next week!
Take care and best wishes

Lovely photos from your hikes, well done for keeping going especially when it’s not your favourite thing to do.
Your week sounds like it was full of glimmers, hope you can get some answers about the sweating, I’ve been having night sweats but I’m pretty sure it’s down the perimenopause.
I hope you’ve had a lovely weekend.
Beautiful pics from your hike. Well done you for seeing it through! I hear you, I’ve gone for many long walks and regretted it when I’m huffing and puffing up a hill! Haha.
Lovely to have you at #MMBC. Hope to see you again Monday! Have a great week Laura. 🙂
Enjoy the beautiful marigolds in your garden. Until recently I was also a keen hiker. I need to get back into it. Nice to see your pics. #MMBC
So nice of you to join the Word of the Week linky! I am so looking forward to reading your posts now. By way of introduction, we are twin sisters who blog and vlog: Jo & Leisa. We are Jamaicans but live here in England where we came as teachers. We have both left teaching and our children are grown. Loving life and are almost 60.
I quite like your writing style and love the fact that you get out and about. I hiked once but didn’t enjoy it so wouldn’t do it again, lol.
We love flowers too and your marigolds definitely light up the space.
Blessings and we hope you have a lovely week.
I love the Glimmers. Those are such important things to look for and recognize in the daily grind of life! And that phrase about thinking you’re coping until you snap is so poignant. A good reminder! Thanks for sharing this post with us at the Will Blog for Comments #56 linkup! We’d love to see more at #57, too. Have a great week.
