Holy guacamole! That week was craaaaazy. Nothing big happened but a lot of little things and it felt like the week was on fast forward and slow motion all at the same time. It was our first full week with our new routine and David was away so it was a wild ride.
Glimmers
(Glimmers are micro-moments of joy that make us feel happy, hopeful, and safe.)
- Emma started her new “school” on Monday. She loved it. She loves the little girl she goes with and seems very responsive to the teacher, such a huge relief.
- Jack and I spent about 3 hours at Culture Coffee (our happy place) after we dropped Emma off – he did school and I got a ton of work done.
- After going to therapy once a week for about 6 months, Emma and her therapist have decided she is ready to see her once a month.
- Eve and I had a great walk on Tuesday. I took both dogs which was a little nerve wracking – Kobe has a lot of anxiety and responds better to David. But it went well – both dogs were great.
- I have been wanting to go to Create for ages, Emma and I just set a date and went on Wednesday and it was so great. I could easily go back every week if it wasn’t so expensive.
- I did a solo walk on Thursday – no dogs, no Eve, no David. It was a very different experience, I got completely lost in my thoughts because I didn’t have to keep calling Cocoa out of the bushes. I am going to make one of my weekly walks a solo one and call it my weekly brainstorm session.
My Weekly Wisdom..
You are never really sure whether or not you are getting parenting right. But there are moments where you high five yourself and your partner. We had one of those moments recently.
Jack has had a girlfriend for about 7/8 months. They, unfortunately, recently broke up. It was rough for everyone, lots of tears and emotions and talking about how to handle things with respect and kindness.
One of the things that caused a lot of tension and seemed to be the final straw was Jack’s decision to get another piercing. (Now before I share more, I know this is a touchy subject for a lot of people – the idea a boy has an earring, especially a young boy but we discussed this as a family and David and I are comfortable with Jack getting earrings. We completely respect anyone who does not feel the same. Every person has to do what they feel is right for themselves and their family. )
Back to the story. Jack wanted another piercing, he had the money for it and wanted to get it done asap. He knew going in that his girlfriend and his family were not as excited. He discussed it with David and they decided he was still going to go ahead with it. He did and obviously the outcome was not great. Despite the heartache and loss of a friend, I am so proud of Jack for staying true to who he is. We all know that life is full of people who disagree with you, are going to try persuade you this way or that. He made a decision, he knew the possible outcomes but decided that this was important enough to him to stand by it. Maybe you would have made a different choice, maybe I would have but we gave him the space and support to make a decision and deal with the consequences.
Of course he was sad. Of course he wished things were different. I am sure he had moments of doubt and wanted to change his mind. Ultimately though he backed himself and I am so proud of him for that. It is also a reminder to be true to your values and the things that you feel are important, especially when other people don’t always agree.
Picture of the Week
I have decided to change this section up and add in my favourite photo of the week. We had a different walked planned on Sunday but I am glad we ended up where we did. It was a beautiful walk that used to be really hard but I managed it really well,

Wise Words of the Week

Words of the Week
I am joining up with the Word of the Week link party this week so my word for the week would have to be ROUTINE. Even though it was a little crazy, I am so grateful that we now have a routine that is working for all of us.
Until next week!

It sounds like you’ve had such a positive week. I really enjoyed reading about your glimmers, I love the painted pottery; it’s very pretty.
Sorry to hear about Jack’s break-up; that must have been rough for him, but I’m glad he stayed true to himself.
I would have no problem with any of my kids wanting piercings, but I do understand that’s not the case for everyone.
Have a lovely weekend.
What a busy week for you. Your walks sound very restorative and the Create date looks lots of fun. Sorry that Jack had a rough week. Good for him sticking to what felt right to him. The world is made up of so many different people, which makes it interesting and I’m sure he’ll find others that love him just as he is.
Hope you are having a lovely weekend.
What a fab week with lots of great moments. I am glad Emma got on well with the new school routine.
Good on Jack for knowing his own mind and doing what he felt was right for him. x
Glad Emma enjoyed her new school and made a friend – it always helps when you bond with someone. Hope jack is starting to feel better after his breakup – first love and heartbreak is horrible to deal with as a parent
Glad to hear that Emma’s new school is going well. Hard for Jack, but sounds like he’s got great support to move on from it over time. Loving your glimmers – I love pottery painting too, but we don’t have any near us (and as you say, they’re expensive). I’m still using my ‘strawberry’ bowl and I’ve got my long snack plate somewhere too.
What a good week, I know Jack had his issues but he worked through them and I totally get it. My 17 yr old daughter had a break up recently and it was heart breaking to see her so hurt. But, it’s been a positive move and it seem her personality has changed for the better. She wants piercings but I’ve told her I don’t mind so long as she takes care of it. With our family history we’ve had a lot of allergic reactions. I’m glad Emma is doing so well at school and therapy. It’s good to get parenting wins, I hope it continues. We’re pottery painting fans too, it’s a shame it’s expensive.
It’s a shame about the breaking up, but it is one of those things that we all go through in our lives. The fact that he is happy with his choice and thought about it before doing it is a testament to your parenting. Well done for that.
Walking alone is indeed very different. I hope you have plenty of good walks, both alone and with the dogs.
That’s great news that Emma’s enjoying her new “school” and that she’s doing well with her therapy too. Lovely to get out for walks – glad the walk with both dogs went well and you enjoyed your solo walk too. Sorry that Jack had a rough week with having the break-up with his girlfriend but it’s good that he’s been able to stay true to himself and been so well supported to do so. I like your wise words for the weeks and reframing midlife as being a rebirth – such a good way to look at it. Glad that your routine is working well for you all. #WotW
where are you walking Laura? I always felt safe when I was out with Bob, but not sure I’d fancy a solo walk.
It’s the norm over here for boys to have piercings. I assumed he’d had his face pierced or something to cause a reaction like it did, I didn’t realise till now it was an ear. I hope Emma is settling into her new education arrangement #wotw
