South Africa starts shutting down in December. I love it. There is a collective slowing down and a switch to holiday mode. This week was all about that switch for us. We had a little Christmas lunch with my in laws, did some car admin to get ready for our trip and wrapped up as much work as we could.
Glimmers
(Glimmers are micro-moments of joy that make us feel happy, hopeful, and safe.)
- Emma had 2 markets – Friday and Saturday and made some nice pocket money for the holidays.
- We had a delicious lunch with my in-laws, they were going to come with us on holiday but unfortunately my mother in law is not able to come anymore, so we had an early celebration.
- I received a Woolies gift card from them and got some new workout clothes.
- David and I went for 2 walks this week – one normal one and one longer one on a trail we have never done – it was tough but sooo good.
- I started building a puzzle earlier in the week. It is so calming, I am hoping I can get it done before we leave.
- Emma went away with her friend this week and has been living her best little 11 year old life.
- My Christmas shopping is done! The kids have very set ideas on what they want which makes it easier. But I don’t think I have been done this early.
Picture of the Week
I have decided to change this section up and add in my favourite photo of the week. Just look at this distinguished gentleman.

Wise Words of the Week
This is the first page of the journal I received. Isn’t it just lovely.

Words of the Week
I am joining up with the Word of the Week link party this week so my word for the week would have to be EXCITEMENT. There was lots of excitement this week – holiday excitement, Christmas lunch and presents excitement, finishing shopping. And I was so excited to get a long walk in with David, its been in our diary for weeks. There was also lots of excitement yesterday when Jack reached a goal at rock climbing.
Until next week!

I love the idea of a collective slowing down. This time of year tends to feel quite hectic over here. Glad you’ve been able to switch into holiday mode. Love the wise words for this week and excitement is such a lovely word for your week. Hope you have a lovely holiday. #WotW
How great to have that shut down and have things slow down. Well done to Emma with the markets and how lovely to have an early celebration with your in-laws.
Aww! That really is a distinguished gentleman, the crossed paws are just adorable.
Slowing down and switching off for Christmas sounds wonderful. I think here in the UK things get even more chaotic in the run-up.
My cat used to love sitting on my puzzle board and batting pieces onto the floor, annoying at the time but something I miss terribly now.
Your distinguished gentleman is absolutely gorgeous!
Have a fabulous holiday and Christmas x
Ah sorry about your kitty cat. Hope you also have a fabulous time!
I hated the slow down and shutting off as it was visa renewal time for us and with a non existent postal service it was very stressful. However I did enjoy how quiet Pretoria was over the actual holiday period and none of this panic buying and mad sales. #wotw
I used to enjoy the manic before Christmas but we are now enjoying more of a slow time. I’m glad you’ve had an exciting week though. I’m keeping all my excitement for after Christmas when I have some shows booked. Your wise words of the week always make me smile.
The slow is so much better than the manic. And you realise that it all still gets done the same!
That is so neat that there is a collective shutting down for Christmas. Here in the states most stores and restaurants hardly even close for Christmas day!
I think it has just become a part of our culture now to be honest. We don’t even mind that the country all but halts for 6 weeks
