It has been a week of travel, memories, celebrations and sadness. We started our road trip to Cape Town on Sunday and spent the week exploring parts of South African we haven’t seen before. I forget how beautiful South Africa is but these little trips remind me just how spectacular it is.
Glimmers
(Glimmers are micro-moments of joy that make us feel happy, hopeful, and safe.
- We had a wonderful Father’s Day lunch in the only hotel in Hanover. It was unexpectedly delicious. There is not much happening in Hanover, apart from the hotel and the stunning little guest house we stayed it – no shops, not even a petrol station – just some dust roads, abandoned houses and a gorgeous church.
- Our second stop was in the Cederberg to see the bouldering for Jack. Apparently we the Cederberg have some of the best boulders in the world, so Jack was keen to check it out and it did not disappoint. We spent the day walking along the top of the mountain searching for boulders. Spending the day outside in nature, walking, discovering – food for the soul.
- Our search for coffee took us to two other small little towns which is always so delightful.
- We stayed in the loveliest accommodation in Cederberg – our little cottage was small but it was built into the side of the mountain with an actual tree in the bathroom.
- Our third stop was in Kalk Bay which is one of our favourite places to visit when in Cape Town, so we had the best time exploring it.
- We found a chocolate shop that has some of the best chocolate ever. Jack and I spent a lot of money on their goodies.
- There is a restaurant in Cape Town that only sells gluten free products – we popped in and I bought a pain a chocolate. If I had know it was going to be as unforgettable as it was, I would have bought them all. I will be going back!
- Friday was Cameron’s birthday, so we had lunch at the Dogs Bollocks in Cape Town. They have a huge burger on the menu. If you can finish the burger you get to write your name on the wall. David ordered it, ate it and then left a message for Cameron. He would have loved it so much.
- I also have to give a HUGE shout out to my friend Eve! She walked the Leopard Trail this week – 60km over 4 days – I am so proud of her!
