Weekly Wisdoms #9
Oh look its Friday again! It’s been a week. All the kids sports are back this week, we are all back to our regular therapy sessions again. Our diaries are fulling up fast again. January and February are busy months for us, we have a lot of birthdays that happen over this time as well as every day life stuff.
Glimmers
(Glimmers are micro-moments of joy that make us feel happy, hopeful, and safe.)
- Emma gave me a voucher for Me & B for Christmas, we picked up the shirts I ordered over the weekend. I LOVE LOVE them both.
- We had a great weekend celebrating David’s birthday with two amazing meals out – dinner at Peppertree and lunch at the Social Grill – both amazing restaurants.
- My neighbour asked me to help her label her kids school stuff with my Cricut and we struggled so much with some of the items but it was so good to feel challenged and get out of my own head a bit.
- I played around with my Cricut a bit more and made a fun birthday card for Emma’s friend.
- We received a STUNNING box of stationery from BIC – check out my video. I grabbed the fine liners before Emma could even see what they were.
- I had a great catch up coffee with a close friend I haven’t seen in ages.
- I found two Christmas gifts from Woolies that were marked down by 75%. One of them was a Mia Melange basket. I have wanted one of their baskets for years but they are not cheap – I got this one for R50 and it is perfect for my desk.
- It has been so hot and I had a few chores to do, so grabbed a sneaky Vida E smoothie – it was sooooo good.
- I got my gardener to pull out my entire back garden which is where all my veggies are. I don’t have the capacity now to give it the attention it needs and with all the rain it looks like a jungle. So we are going to start from scratch with something more manageable. I am very excited. I love the clean look now – its like a blank slate.
- I saw my therapist for the first time since I left the clinic at the end of November. It was a good debrief of the holidays.
- Che bought over some gluten free brownies they made from pecan nut flour – OMG they were the most amazing things EVER!
- We are watching Below Deck. It is so ridiculous but we are all hooked.
- Vula is back and we received our weekly fresh fruit and veg and it is so good to have good quality fresh produce again.
My Weekly Wisdom
What a week it has been. I have had to dig really deep to focus on CALM.
The week started with my coffee running out (and Checkers not delivering it when I ordered), no water and Emma having a very big emotional reaction to her new karate class all day. The water situation didn’t get much better, we haven’t had a 12 hour period with water this whole week. There was also a period of no power in between.
Our complex borehole is broken, the guy who is supposed to fix it is given us issues, we need access to this water now because the water issues don’t seem to be going away. The complex beams kept triggering through the night – fortunately a quick fix by replacing the batteries but as the complex chairman this stuff falls on me.
Work is getting busier, for which I am very thankful but when you add all these little things together and its not exactly a recipe for calm, productive days.
You may be wondering where is the wisdom in this long list of problems? Well it’s this – just be calm.
The council is aware of the water issues, they are fixing them as fast as they happen. Being stressed about isn’t going to miraculously make water appear in the taps.
We have solar so the power outage wasn’t a big deal, I had a dinner planned that I could do in the air fryer. Getting mad wasn’t going to fix it.
We have escalated the borehole issue – getting angry might help but it probably won’t.
Emma is working through her karate issues, I am actually so proud of how she is handling it. Her new class is physically a lot harder and she feels overwhelmed but hasn’t mentioned quitting once!
There is calm in the eye of the storm and it always, always passes.
My wisdom for the week is to be calm in the chaos, it will pass.
Cool Things I Found on the Internet
My therapist and I were talking about meeting new people and she mentioned an app called MeetUp. I downloaded it and it’s pretty cool – there are a few cool gatherings happening in my area. I haven’t attended a meetup yet but it looks like a cool way to meet new people.
TikTik is on the verge of being banned in the US. Honestly I think they will pull it through somehow but it is pretty stressful for those creators who made their income from it.
