Word of the Week – Achievement

I had two words this week – challenge and achievement. In the end I went with achievement because I achieved more this week that I thought I could.

We landed home on Monday lunchtime and I flew out on Tuesday morning for my very first 4-day hike. It was an intense 2 days of travelling but arriving in Jeffrey’s Bay was so worth it.

We started walking on Wednesday – the goal was 100km. We walk as a group following a route that has been designed for us to see as much of Jeffrey’s Bay as possible. It was an absolutely gorgeous walk. I was feeling so strong until we got to 24km and I took my shoes off to HUGE blisters on the ball of my foot. It was so incredibly painful I just cried and cried.

The achievement was I walked the most km in one day that I have ever walked. It was such a huge deal for me. Apart from the blisters I actually felt fine so had that not happened I know I would have been strong enough to carry on.

The second achievement was I didn’t just give up completely. I kept walking every day, just on the easier routes and the beach where I could walk bare foot. I didn’t manage the full 100km but I got to about 70km which I am so incredibly proud about especially because so much of that was walking in pain.

Doing this walk was never about the km’s it was more about pushing myself to do something outside of my comfort zone that I knew would be hard.

It might not have all gone to plan but I had the best week exploring a new city, meeting new people and making amazing memories. And I achieved something I did not think possible a few years ago.

I am joining up with the Word of the Week link party Check it out and join the part too!

  1. What an achievement, I know it must have been tough but what gorgeous views you had along the way. I hope you are all healed now.
