December Round Up

I am a little sad I only started these round ups a few months ago. I am definitely going to try keep them going next year. They are such a great way to record the highlights of the month and they get me writing.

What was the highlight of your month? Definitely our holiday but more specifically having the dogs with us. Every year we go away without them and end up missing them so terribly. So this year we made sure we found a place that allows pets and it was the best decision ever. Watching them discover the sea and play on the dunes was a core memory for us all.
What book, podcast, or show did you enjoy most? This was unexpected but we started watching the Taylor Swift documentary and it was a lot more emotional than any of us thought. I have been really enjoying it though, it is fascinating to watch how it all came together.

What’s one thing you’re proud of from this month? We walked almost every day of our holiday and managed two 7km hikes. It was a lot and my body felt it but I am so glad I did it. This is not something I would normally do, having the dogs here helped because they wanted to go out.
Share a meal or recipe that stood out? We were staying in a holiday home so I had to work with what they had to cook/bake with. There was a round cake tin that had an indented center which I made the brownies for Christmas in. It came out with a hollow in the middle – I wasnt sure what to do with it so we added whipped cream and broken up peppermint crisp and it was amazing! I actually might make it every year.

What made you laugh or smile the most? Watching the dogs discover the sea. They were both very weary, Coco still is but Kobe eventually got used to the waves. They loved running along the sand though and chasing the kids up the dunes.
What was harder than expected this month? Christmas! It is our second Christmas without Cameron and Kiara decided last minute to stay with my folks – it was hard.

Who did you connect with in meaningful ways? My little family of 4. We really had such a fun time away. We played games, walked on the beach, discovered new places to eat – it was special.
What surprised you about this month?
What’s one lesson you learned? Do it your way. Most years I pack up my kids and we head out to go to family. This year we went away, just us, no other family and honestly it was perfect. We could do things on our schedule and we had the calmest Christmas day. Obviously being with our extended family is special and important but just doing things our way is just as lovely.
What are you looking forward to next month? I love January. It is a chance to clear the table and reset and refocus.

How was your December?
