I used to write, a lot. I used to write every day. Not because I had to or anyone was waiting for a post but simply because I found such joy in sharing my life. I am not sure when or why I stopped sharing – maybe our life was a lot more interesting then. Or maybe I started caring too much about what people think of me, my family and my writing?
Or maybe I just lost my joy somewhere along the way.
I have written about this before because it has been a few years and it is something I miss so much. But i just can’t seem to get back to.
So in the wise words of someone on the internet I am gonna fake it till I make it. And by that I mean I am just going to write, even when the blank white screen feels overwhelming because the words will come, they always do.
HarassedMom is full of completely random updates and stories about our lives. I never wrote them for anyone but my kids – they now have a record of their childhood and we often go back and look when things happened etc. The idea is to one day put it all into a book….but I digress.
What better place to start than a life lately update, something a little more detailed than my weekly wisdoms.
This year marks my 3rd year working with David and we are only really finding our rhythm now. Last year was more about survival and processing Cameron’s death. But I feel like now we have processes in place that work for us and I have a better understanding of the work he (we) does.
Jack starts Grade 9 this year. We are doing the American High School Diploma, mainly because it allows us so much freedom on terms of subjects we can do. We know he doesn’t want to study after school and I am honest we are not even pushing him into it. (The days of needing a degree are long gone.).
He has also started with a rock climbing coach once a week. He is absolutely loving it and I am so glad he has found something he feels so passionate about.

Emma will be doing Grade 6 with her tutor again this year. She loves the structure and being able to be with her friend every day but she still very much hates the work. She is doing really well though and my goal is to get her to a point where she can carry on her high school work without the need for a tutor.
Emma has moved up in her karate which means she now competes in the Elite section as well, which means we have 2 day competitions in our future.
I really want to do a multi day hike this year but I want to do it and enjoy it. So I want to be ready and not just sign up and hate every minute of it. First step is a 2-day hike with David and then more walking and then possibly this walk in September.
It doesn’t look like I am going to carry on netball this year and I am not too upset about it. I had a lot of fun last year but not enough to want to take over the organising of it each week. For me it was more about doing something I didn’t think I could do.
We got a lot done around the house last year but there is still so much that needs to do be done. I am really hoping we can get to the kitchen this year. We basically just need new cabinets along one wall but it includes some plumbing changes so simple but not cheap. The kids bathroom also needs a remodel but the pipes all need to be replaced – so not a simple, repaint project. (Owning a house is for the birds).
I think that’s the highlight reel of where we are right now.
