My Favourite Christmas Movies | Wisdoms and Wrinkles

My Favourite Christmas Movies

Last year Emma and I decided to watch a Christmas movie every day for the month of December. It was a fun exercise because I haven’t really intentionally watched Christmas movies so we had a lot too choose from.

This year, because I am deep in my “watch all the movies to distract you” stage of grieving, I decided to start in November. My plan was to start with movies I haven’t seen yet but I am discovering a flaw in this plan – there are a lot (A LOT) of really bad Christmas movies out there. It’s not so much that they are all very cookie cutter rom-coms, its the bad acting that makes it hard to get through some of them, but I am nothing if not committed.

I am in the process of compiling a list of my favourites, so you can skip the bad ones. I have started a list on Letterboxd as well. A fun little past time of mine is watching a movie, then reading the reviews on Letterboxd – they are so funny!

These are my (current) top 15

Happiest Season – I watched this last year and again now – this definitely makes my top 10 list. It’s a love story but also so much more and it has Dan Levy in.

Your Christmas or Mine – there is a sequel to this movie, its not as good, I would even skip it.

The Holiday – I don’t enjoy Cameron Diaz or Jack Black but they are both tolerable in this and Kate Winslet and Jude Law make up for them.

Rise of the Guardians – without question my all time favourite animated movie!

Love Hard – another top 10 favorite for me. You know what is going to happen but the journey there is still fun.

Love Actually – obvs it was going to make the list – a classic.

The Christmas Chronicles – this is such a fun Father Christmas movie but again, the sequel lets it down a bit.

Father Christmas is Back – I enjoyed this one, but my family didn’t really. I love the British humour so this will always make the list! (Don’t even bother with sequel, it is shockingly bad).

The Polar Express – a classic!

No Sleep Till Christmas – it has it all – romance, cheese and predictability but still good enough to make my list.

Noelle – watched this because it has Anna Kendrick in it didn’t disappoint. Its a sweet story with lots of Christmas cheer.

Arthur Christmas – this is a great family movie with a good story line.

A Christmas to Remember – sheer cheese, sub par acting but enjoyable.

Holidate – a fun movie and honestly not the worst idea if you are single.

A Bad Mom Christmas – loved the chaos of this movie.

What movies are on your list?
