I was really looking forward to this walk in the Faerie Glen Nature Reserve. Every time it came into the rotation last year either it was rained out or I couldn’t make it. Even though it was David’s birthday on Sunday, I am glad I made it.
Everyone said this walk was tough, so I was mentally prepared for a challenge but it wasn’t much worse than some of our other walks. We didn’t quite make 5km, Rene was trying to avoid the really tough parts and so we lost a few km along the way.
There are 3 marked trails – 2 x 2.5km and a 4.1.km but they all sort of criss cross so you can make it less/more depending on what you want to do. There is a route that doesn’t go up the mountain at all, so is fairly flat.
There are a few tough elevations and the path gets quite narrow at some points and it is a pretty technical walk but I loved it.

The reserve opens at 6h00 and the entrance fee is R21.
You can take dogs but they have to be on a leash and you will have to buy a separate permit for them.
There is no coffee shop/restaurant on site.
I loved this walk but it is not for beginners, even though the routes are short, the elevation is tough.

It looks like a beautiful walk. Such lovely blue skies!
