Sunday Hike – Rosemary Hill

I love Rosemary Hill. I would love to own a farm like Rosemary Hill – it has trails, accommodation, a school, restaurants and is a working farm. They have designed it so beautifully so it doesn’t feel like all these things happen there.

Everyone else loves Rosemary Hill too, the trail was very busy with runners, cyclists and dogs. I have been walking enough to now to notice that there are two types of runners – the ones who are ok to share a trail with walkers and ones who see walkers as annoyances. Even if we get out of the way of the latter in time, they will always let us know they are annoyed we exist.

Anyway back to the trail!

The Trails

There are only 2 walking trails at Rosemary Hill – a 5km and an 11km. I have only ever done the 5km and it is a pretty easy walk with almost no elevation. The walk winds its way around the farm – through the rosemary fields, past the accommodation (which is on my wish list) and a few other activities that happen on the farm. The section through the rosemary fields is very pretty and tranquil but the farm is busy so there is a lot going on while you walk.

It is a lovely trail but not one where you are going to find peace and calm (not on the weekends anyway).

There is a restaurant on the farm that serves a delicious breakfast and coffee but again, it can get busy on the weekends.

Dogs are allowed but they must be on lead. This is a popular spot for dogs, keep that in mind if your pooch is a little reactive – it can get overwhelming.

The trail fee is R50.

This is a fun walk to do with a group of friends or your family.
