Word of the Week – Loss

There is only one word for this week – LOSS.

My mother in law passed away on Wednesday morning. She had been sick for a while now, so we have been preparing for this but it was still a shock.

One of David’s cousins asked me if I was ok or of it bought back everything we dealt with with Cameron. I was and it didn’t. They were two very different losses. Cameron’s loss was sudden, unexpected, devastating and shocking. Whereas she had been sick, she was in her home, surrounded by the people she loved and who loved her and we all had a chance to say our goodbyes.

As sad as it was, it was peaceful and calm.

But it was still a loss of someone who was a big part of our every day life. It was husband’s wife and my children’s grandmother.

I am learning that when you lose someone you don’t only grieve that person but everything that that person stood for. She won’t be there for the children’s weddings or their babies or their first job or any other achievements that they may get. She won’t take them on any more shopping trips or holidays or lunches.

We have lost so many memories and so many moments.

But through the tears there has also been a lot of laughs. David’s mom was quite a larger than life character and we all have a bank of funny stories that we shared.

I hope you had a FANTASTIC week!
