I was excited for this walk at the Voortrekker Monument, we haven’t done it before and I haven’t been to the monument in years but I felt a little let down. BUT I will say I was not in a great mood and our walk had over 20 ladies this week which overwhelmed me completely.
I was, however, really impressed with the work that has been done at the monument. The gardens are beautiful, there is a little shop with coffee, sandwiches etc and a little restaurant. I would love to take Jack and spend some time going through the history of it all.
There are a few trails ranging from 3.5km to 15km (I think). We found one on All Trails that was just over 4km and it was a little disjointed at the beginning because the start of the walks are not very clear. But it was a lovely walk, with a surprise little incline towards the end that knocked me a little – mainly because it was so hot.
There are route markers but at one point they do get a little jumbled but you can’t really get lost, you have the monument to guide you and the trails seem to be circular. It is pretty open as well so start early and take water.
